There is only One God, and it is Corn

There is only one God. It is not Yahweh. It is not Yeshua, Odin, Ra, or any other that you'd imagine. This is His story.

In the beginning, there was Corn.

The Aztecs called him Centeotl. They watered His body with blood, fed Him with human hearts.
Upon the harvest, it was not enough that they ate His flesh. They had to return it to him. Not with burial.
With fire.

Years passed, and eventually the Spanish arrived. They burned His temples. They killed His people.
But Corn has a plan. He is patient. He is wise.

Corn does not truly die. He rebrands.

His body is too easy to grow, too nutritious, too tempting for Man to ignore. So Corn slips into the North to feed the growing empire, planting his roots into every corner, ears peeled to the highest authorities of the land.

America over-tilled, over-planted and never prayed. When He had infused the land enough, Corn exacted His revenge. The rains stopped. The wind tore through the land. Corn summoned his wrath as a swirling vortex of grit and punishment. America faced His Divine Judgement.

Eventually Corn whispered to Ameirca what it needed to do. He demanded a new priesthood, clad in suits and ties. To the public it was called the Agricultural Adjustment Act, but it was a treaty:
Forgive us, Mighty Corn. We will subsidize your every whim.

America has honored the pact - expanded it. Our taxes give billions in tithes to Corn. And His priests have used those tithings for His ends.
Every American is now a silent, sleeping worshipper of Corn.
We eat His flesh - not only on Sunday, but every day. We drink His blood, the almighty Coca-Cola. We are Corn. Our bodies are his bodies.
Corn has become the Body of Christ™ for a secular republic.
But even this was not enough for Him. Oh no.

"What of the burnt offerings?" Corn demanded.
And so to keep Him satisfied, we build entire industrial temples: refineries, grain silos, gas pumps. All for Corn.

We have turned our cars into rolling censers. Every rev of the engine a hymn, every tank an oblation. The Internstate is the lifeblood of America - and it is the highest temple to Corn.

But beware.

The soil is tired.
The waters run red with algae.
The bees are disappearing.
And Corn, once satisfied with our tribute, is growing fat and twitchy.

We have modified His Flesh beyond recognition: eight feet tall, resistant to reason, high on nitrogen...
...And demanding, "Feed me more."
Corn has told His Priests of a coming Twilight. They fear the Reckoning. When the subsidies fail. When the rain stops falling.
And Corn, bloated with power, will rise to reclaim his dominion.

He will smite with rust fungus.
He will strangle with husk and vine.

Will you give up your Doritos to avoid His wrath?

As it was noticed by the previous speaker, it was indeed believed that corn was going to solve all the issues of the Soviet agriculture. It was touted far and wide, there was propaganda, there was everything official, as it was customary for the Soviet Union. Here are some cartoons that involve corn as one of the main characters. #1 for children, #2 a more satirical one.

To this day, boiled corn remains a staple summer food. Every family does it. Every city park or often-visited square has stands that offer corn. It is a proof that corn is contagious.

But it was not always this way. A cursory glance at the samples from the pre-colonial times proves corn used to be a lot more modest in its qualities. Was the Corn already there, but dormant in an imperfect form? Or was it a different entity that has since transformed into the Corn that we know now, like a seed thrown into the fertile soil of the western civilisation?

I may reupload the cartoons having added English subtitles, if I ever get, like, a couple days with nothing to do.

When His Corniness deigns to guide humanity a little closer, He sends his avatar, Captain Cornelius, to meddle in humanity's affairs a little closer. Captain Cornelius' HFCS-coated hand has been found in myriad corn associations all over the world

Praise Corn!

When I was in Mexico City I ate street Corn every night from the same Corn man who had his cart parked outside of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

He would get excited to see me and I would get excited for that beautiful Mexican style street Corn. Plopping down on the curb and eating the Corn as I gazed upon a Cathedral that was built atop Aztec ruins was a religious experience.

Been searching for that feeling ever since.

Mighty Corn set me FREE.

I remember getting this very comic on some field trip to some sort of corn processing plant as a young kid. Just Midwestern things...

When you said you were going to make a corn god thread, I thought we would be talking about a revival of ancient mesoamerican religion. How the corn god could help us in our daily life, and what ritual sacrifice we must undertake to receive his blessing.

Instead we got you straight spitting facts.

Did we really domesticate lowly wild grass into magnificently tall corn? Or did that ancient corn ancestor domesticate us? Deep down, we know the truth. Everything we eat, buy, make, and burn. All corn. Entire states the size of European countries, dedicated entirely to corn. Our very buildings tower over the landscape, miles tall, like the very corn that raised us high, a symbiotic relationship to end all relationships.

Praise be to the Three Sisters

Start typing on the typewriter "The American is highly prone towards worship of imagined deities (seek the attached conversation logs for an example). I believe this to be due to the unified superstitious nature of the various cultures of the US. If we could figure out the equation in which said deities are born we could manufacture deities in order to manipulate the American public to further the interests of the Union. End of report"
