They were probably better off not saying or doing anything. The amount of money they're setting on fire to virtue signal and play into the hands of the hooting retards who keep screaming GROOMER is probably fairly substantial. Virtually everyone who's everyone in the subculture today started going to cons in their mid-late teens. Allowing under-18s at furry conventions doesn't just net them more admission dollars but saves a lot of expense - the hotel is freed from having to do extra enforcement, as are the already overworked convention staff.
The problem comes down to social contagion, starting with an amount of people who probably somewhat innocently allowed kids in on this stuff. You can tell me if it was always a sexually degenerate thing, I imagine that some among them who mainline degenerative ideologies regarding sex, popularized the sexual aspect of furry. An aspect that flies directly in the faces of what parents want for thier kids. They don't want thier 13yo kid going to the bathroom, with a mentally ill stranger, one that might feel fine to reveal themselves, who might be drunk or high, or selling drugs.
Rainfurrest as an example was an outright dumpster fire, highly sexualized, even showcasing some very prominent degeneracy in the open, like crinkle, drugs, etc.
Children have no place at an event like that, and the standards sink lower every year. I think how it got started, is irrelevant, even anime cons have become places for unsupervised youth to get into alcohol, parties, and adult situations, which are inappropriate for children.
Furry is a deviates from a normal and healthy lifestyle with sexuaity at the core of it's image, it's, closer to a kink or a fetish than a Fandom. Marvel is a fandom, Ninja Gaiden is a Fandom. When you start dressing as an anthropomorphized animal, to interact with others, play as or exist recreationally, or have sexual relations, then you can't say oh its just a fandom. It's beyond that imo.
Parents have a point. Kids keep getting sucked into these things by older kids and young adults. It's not all, but some. Social contagion works just like a virus. Access to children has become mainstream, this is why it's coming out of the woodwork.
I never thought minors (especially preteens, like c'mon) have ever belonged at these things but of course not until after 10 years worth of culturewar brainrot passed did people even begin to entertain the thought (and for dumb reasons).
Good on you.
Incredible that Rolling Stone should give a shit, but all the magazines were hollowed out into pure hyper-online clickbait years ago, so it's not a surprise.
All media seems to be downplaying grooming and child trafficking. After what we learned with Epstien and the flight log leaks, and the refusal to unseal Ghislane Maxwell records, I think it's part of a disinformation campaign.
The conspiracy theorists keep getting things right, and this is dangerous for the narrative, so they try to get ahead of it to keep more people from waking up. Inoculation.
