One of the things that drew me to vaporwave is its insistence on "fashionability". The most experimental and avant-garde electronic music made today is being packaged as chic, playful, and sometimes sexy neo-future a e s t h e t i c s instead of the cold academic archiving that was the template for "serious music" since the publication of 20th-century art music records in the 60s.

Like how streetwear has become the paradigm for clothing fashion as an aesthetic of repurposing, vaporwave has always been ahead of the game as an editorial template for music publication. What do you guys think? George Clanton often reiterates how a good label is a style brand too, and with such a diversity of netlabels out there, I'm fascinated by the relationship between the music and the look: it's all wrapped up together. I think vaporwave and high fashion will only continue to converge, we've already seen musics by t e l e p a t h and others presiding over catwalks. By the same token, vaporwave clothing brands will certainly mature as the music settles into its future. No more Arizona green tea can hoodies, please.

One of my favorite artists, General Translator, plays remarkably well with high fashion concepts cohering eclectic albums full of dance and ambience and everything in-between:

R23X OSV.gif

I just discovered this album, OSV by R23X, and am really feeling the voluminous and futuristic high-rise cloudy atmosphere. It's so evocative of what could be a future style. To me is also syncs so well with this art.

As well as this in my opinion, near sublime mindscape reminiscent of Jorge Luis Borges and HP Lovecraft's writings:

And this too, by a different artist:

Here's the link to R23X's album which is strangely not on bandcamp! along with many other albums, why? I'd really like to know.

I would personally say anything luxury elite has made or decides to make. her albums feel like the pov of a beautiful model that's perpetually at the peak of her popularity in the 80's.

I honestly can't say that there are whole albums that do that, in my opinion...
There are good album segments and good singles. From Eco Virtual, for instance, I'd say Atmospheres 3 from tracks 1 through 4; or Vaperror's Greatest Hits from tracks 1-7. I have rarely found any production that carries itself in style all the way to the end.
