Me and a friend are trying lo-fi video. Here's a dry run at something that might have potential. What do you think? Got a lot of footage like this, some better, some worse.

Here's one of that Mel dancing gif @RIG made with some other visuals tested while listening to music by @MarchToTheSea (Video is private but if that was a violation of either of you guys I will take the unlisted one down & delete.)

Got a few working effects but need something to actually make. Wanted to see if there's any vaporwave use given the look. If you guys have any free use or original footage and music to suggest post and you will get processed version in reply. Or just thoughts. Not sure if this is what Agora Road is about but it seems like the right place to try to get help and help out with videos.

Woah, this is really cool. What do you do to get these effects? I could definitely see utilizing this stuff to make some dope vaporwave music videos or something.

I don't have any footage to pass you, but if you want to do something using any of my music, feel free to! Just make sure to credit me, thanks. :KannaWave:

Thanks. It's mostly analog signal bending and modified display rescan stuff. There's also, of course, the Magnet. Different devices for different effects. It's moderately complicated and surprisingly dangerous. At some point I can write out a rundown if there's public interest but this is more about the output than the process to avoid getting too rote and technical.

Your music is terrific! I knew I came to the right place! Not sure which song I'm gonna use yet, let me know if you favor a specific one and any specific imagery for it's video attempt.

Fascinating! I've been interested in learning more about that sort of stuff, but I'm not exactly sure where to start. Some sort of write-up on your process might be really beneficial for the community!

And thanks, I appreciate it! I'd be okay with any track really, most have some significance behind them. Visualizations of old electronics is the only thing I'd ask for.

This is a learning process, people.

Not even bothering to post the ALF thing. Raw video turned out better. For 10 seconds it was the funniest thing I'd seen in my life, but it was probably just the novelty of making it.
Get your own ALF fix, @zalaz alaza basically how dare you bring up ALF to me fuck you. Might try again later. Until then shame on you. I'm extremely disappointed in you.

@Jessica3cho doubt this is what you had in mind

but the point is the system works and it's relatively robust. Not sure what I was going for with actual vid but ended up watching more old archival footage then I thought I would. There's 3 other fx versions from the uploaded one if you'd prefer.

Glad you approve, @MarchToTheSea. at some point we can make something with proper audio if interested.

Whole thing seems like it would work smoother with something ambient or long form. I don't know.

HOLY FUCK MY DUDE. You nailed this video. You got the vibe spot on so hard, its incredible. What you did with the footage during the drop made my heart leap out of my chest. Would you be okay with me making this the official music video? I'll definitely credit you.

On that note, I'd be super interested in seeing the other 3 versions, just because I loved this so much and am curious what they're like. So, feel free to share them if you want. No pressure though! You've already done so much. :KannaWave:

Ya know what I changed my mind about the ALF thing. You worked hard for it, you earned it, I was a little to harsh on you. Here's the original unprocessed ALF footage:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z50Gt0MrII

"It is an accurate recreation for fans of ALF of what"..."it might have been like to have watched ALF at the time." and here's the failed processed attempt (too much noise):

The device used to effect that video was an experimental circuit prototyped that day, no audio reactivity, no sync stabilization, floating ground, etc. Sometimes these things work other times they don't but the clip without distortion was fun to make and people have the right to see it. My associate and technician worked on it for a while and wouldn't stop laughing. It was a high pitched sustained exhausted laugh that honestly worried me. It went on for a long time as he worked on it alone in my dining room on an improvised computer set up. He had better things to be doing at the time. His head was in his hands. He had a smile on his face but he also looked afraid. The world has a right to know.

Yeah that would be great, I'm stoked that the outcome works for you. Here's the alternate versions :

Basically the same video with different levels of audio distortion and colorization effects. If there's a specific one you prefer let me know and we can work out a way to send you the file for official use. Could also send all 4 if you'd like to cut them together but that's a little to involved for me at this point, and frankly in spite of loss of clarity at certain points in all four any 1 video ultimately looks fine.

Send music and clips and more music vids will follow.

I've been trying to get into video bending for a while now, but not sure what premade device to get. Any suggestions? Preferably looking for something that'll sync the visuals to an audio input as well @BigMagnet

So far I've only really messed with the output cables on my VCR to get some glitch effects

@SolidStateSurvivor that is extremely cool! All my vcr bends are just ugly color bleeds, though I might capture some soon anyway, assuming the hardware holds up. Are those from messing with rgb output or what? I found it tough starting out. One of the most challenging things about learning to video bend for me has been the fact that everyone who knows what they're doing seems so wildly protective of their secrets.

I don't actually have any pre-built stuff and opt for scratch made hardware instead. Hand-wrapped rebar magnets and soldered logic ics etc. If you're willing to go that route I'd recommend two main things to start out: Karl Klomp's dirty video mixer and James Schidlowsky's videffektor. Google these two devices, get some breadboards and the requisite components necessary, and welcome to hell. There's no sync stabilization or plug and play conveniences to this approach but not only is it cheaper than pre-built options it also gives more direct control over what your system produces. Plus the eventual products of your own design can be just. Goddam. Hilarious.

As for audio-visual interactivity I have one word: vactrols. Make or acquire yourself a simple audio amp with a reactive LED, attach that LED to a photoresistor, and route whatever effect you'd like through said resistor. Audio reactivity can be an absolutely huge boon to any video and this is one of the easiest ways to do it. You can also build the LED part out into relays for an on/off either/or switch but it's basically the same thing with extra steps. If your doing it by hand vactrols are the place to start once you've got a couple circuits working.

I'd start posting schematics but this isn't exactly a tech thread and you asked about pre-bent anyway so I'll spare everyone the monotony of wiring diagrams. You might be better off buying pre-bent it definitely saves time and frustration, but has anyone rocking pre-bent hardware hand tuned it to work exactly to their liking from components to control layout? No. Have they personally felt the glorious flow of two hundred thirty VAC at fifty hertz? No. Have they spent even one afternoon shouting "I am an ALF" into a rewired telephone speaker from the 1970s (and earned it)? No. Probably not. Almost definitely not. These are the rewards of the privileged few who go DIY and I can't say with confidence it's worth it, but I can post some helpful resources to a thread on the subject if anyone wants to do something like that.

Otherwise I'd say try sourcing yourself a circuit-bent archer video enhancer. Those seem really cool.

Also you should post more of your stuff because it's badass.

A couple of the alternate takes for the Disillusion vid, plus an early test to see how bad the fidelity loss would be (pretty bad)

Currently waiting on a noise guy to come through with a track that we're planning to make something from, or permission to publish some pre-existing experimental stuff. In the meantime if anyone posts music or footage there's a high chance I'll try making a video from it just for fun. Got a couple new effects working and more on the way but not a lot to process with them. Admittedly it was short sighted to make a music video system when nobody involved on this end knows a single thing about music. This is where the bigdicks of Agora Road come in. Whoever you are, wherever you are, unknown person who makes music and wants a mid-grade music video for it, Big Magnet is calling on you. You're being enlisted. I see you all as a million little tiny ants bringing building materials to me (also an ant) to make something cool from (which for the sake of the metaphor, you should also think of as more ants). It's gonna be great.
