welcome to the windows 7 thread
/d7t/ copypasta:
Feel free to share your experience here with legacy Windows operating systems past their EoL date, such as:
>Methods to hack software to make them run
>Last versions of software/drivers known working on legacy Windows
>Custom forks/builds of software that don't support legacy Windows systems anymore
>Getting legacy Windows systems updated
>Other tips-and-tricks

Feel free to post your projects, devices, and setup
also feel free to let out ur nostalgia for w7 or simply discuss windows 7 / other old ass windows versions. many pre-8 versions of windows were great after all.

It feels so surreal to see Windows 7 become nostalgic, yet here we are. I think this is the operating system of zoomer childhood right? I barely used XP, most of minecraft-at-midnight, anime on youtube, club penguin days were spent on Windows 7. At least from what I remember, very few computers actually updated to Windows 8, so even by the early-mid 2010s most PCs still ran on Windows 7.

I can't say I feel particularly nostalgic about it, I have my PC with a Windows XP skin though...

Also, can you post the 4chan thread lol

>officially works on shitboxes as old as a Pentium iii
>DWM not required (thus no enforced VSync)
>native classic theme that can be used without third party tools
>system utilities are often quicker to open
>full control over updating your system
>effortless to activate with Windows Loader
>lower memory usage
>less random spikes in CPU usage

u can use BypassESU to get updates up to Jan 2023
forgot to include the /lwt/ pastebin in the op. it's really helpful:

Wow, windows 7, I have been looking for a OS but couldn't find it. Thanks to this I'll find it again. It's one thing I miss, and oh I remember it running so smooth... I still have such a shitty computer, that didn't change...

Dafaq is this thread, I still use Win7 on all my machines. What kind of nostalgia are you talking about.

Gotta say a few words though... I have Win10 is installed on the separate HDD and I only launch it to play modern vidya (or remasters of 1994 games which were compiled to work with Win10 only because... some people just gotta be absolute morons, I guess). And thing is: if you run Win10 and Win7 on one machine, never run one of those systems with the system disk of another system connected. Especially Win10. It hates Win7. Every time you run it, it attmepts to check Win7's system disk and one time it actually somehow corrupted it. That was the first time I've had to reinstall a system in 15 years or so.

god that's so annoying. i've had to deal with that too. i'm still not quite sure why it happens but i think that it has to do with windows 10 always setting the dirty bit on a partition or something whenever it's been read from an older version of windows.

Theres a QUITE good Windows 7 theme for KDE, so if anyone wants the lovely and wonderful Windows 7 aero aesthetic while having a modern operating system, give this a shot

OS design (UI.. NT Kernel still kinda sucky) really peaked at Windows 7. Every OS since feels like they need to be NEW and EXCITING and try to reinvent.
You cant change perfection without ruining it...

It's cool, it was mostly a joke after all. In the end of the day, I'm well aware that Win7 is yesterday in the minds of progressive humanity. Just previous week I've saw some Steam statistics that claimed that Win7 is only used by, like, 0.7% of users. Might be a bit different, but I do remember that it was less than 1%.

It might be a bit more popular among people like me who do not use Steam at all, but, overall, yes, I do know that 95% of humanity already treat Win7 like it was an OS Elvis Presley used for his MIDI tunes. Though I also should note that I think humanity has the memory of a goldfish nowadays. I mean, objectively, not even 10 years have passed since the discontinuation of Win7. We absolutely should not feel nostalgic for something that is not even a generation away. Things are moving way too fast nowadays.

As for Win10 hating Win7, I'm quite ready to bet my money that the problem lies in the differences between MBR and GPT and Win10 doesn't support MBR. Wildest theory: Win10 simply thinks a system on MBR shouldn't exist. After all, Microsoft stated multiple times that they don't give the slightest fuck about Win7 anymore.

I had to leave 7 behind once the firefox updates stopped, feels bad man. soon we'll be talking about windows 10 just like this.
idk
windows 11 looks nothing like windows 10 but under the hood it's nearly the same. we might end up with a situation similar to xp and vista as well as 7 and 8.x where the latter of those groups of oses got dropped at the same time the older ones did due to low marketshare. if windows 11 fails to eclipse windows 10 in popularity a similar ordeal will happen with windows 10 and 11

Well, I think it goes here. For the first time I've had to install a 3rd party fix for the application that officially only supports Win8 or higher.
It is Blender.
I think the fact that 3rd party fixes are there proves that:
1) There's a demand for Windows 7.
2) The issue that prevents Win8-and-higher apps to launch on Win7 is not as critical and all encompassing as the one that made me switch from WinXP to Win7. In some apps, at least.
Think of it whatever you want.
