- Waffles House of Quake - UPGRADE ADVISORY NOTICE

This special advisory notice for anyone that wants to play and is not on our mailing list.

Due to limitations of my Github account (2GB Max filesize), the latest canned release must be broken into 2 parts to accommodate our update.

If you already have Q3A installed and just need the new Upgrade PAK files:

Waffles Quake 3 MultiPlatform Upgrade Pack v2.1 - 1.91GB

PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE UPGRADE PACK -- OTHERWISE YOUR GAME WILL BE DELAYED DOWNLOADING THE 1.91GB PAK FROM THE SERVER DURING SUNDAY SERVICE. YOU DON'T WANT THAT.

Upgrade instructions are included and they are very very simple.
Basically, move the new .pk3's to the baseq3 directory and a new 'excessiveplus' directory in your existing installation directory.
Make sure the custom skins (zzzz- files) go in the 'excessiveplus' directory.
Done and done.

Sunday Service 01 will also include these additional maps but they are a much smaller size to download from the server if need be.
Not required, but helpful prior to Sunday: SUNDAY-SERVICE-01-MAPS

Want to make sure your upgrade was successful? Easy.

Launch Quake 3 and select the Mods menu from the Main Menu.
Select the Excessive Plus v2.3 Mod and click Load.
The screen will flicker and re-load in the Excessive Plus Mod.
YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CHARACTER MODEL AND NAME AGAIN.
WHILE YOU'RE HERE MAKE SURE AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADING IS SET TO ON UNDER GAME OPTIONS

Protip: to save yourself the trouble of setting your resolution (for some reason I couldn't select 1920x1080 from the menu), fov, playermodel, name, mouse sensitivity, etc. all over again for excessiveplus, just copy the version of "q3config.cfg" from C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Quake3\baseq3 to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Quake3\excessiveplus

OP has been updated with instructions for downloading the Base Vanilla Q3A version to get started if you do not already have Q3A installed.

I'm also having trouble adding new player models to this version, an alternate Bitterman skin I have installed still works but all the completely new models don't seem to load. I think it might be a conflict with the BFG edition but I'm not sure what it is.

Commands to set your screen resolution in game:
When in Quake 3, hit the ~ tilde key to access the console:

Identified the issue. Move the skins (files with zzzz-*) over to the 'excessiveplus' directory instead of baseq3. I updated the instructions and distribution files to fix the location, but that should solve the missing skins issue in ExcessivePlus+ and load them when that mod gets loaded.

BFG Edition does contain a lot of custom models.. leaving only a few open spots spots for additional player models where Quake can handle a max of 64 player models per game instance. Quake loads PK3 files alphabetically within the baseq3 directory so naming PK3 files with 'zzzz-' at the beginning forces them to load last in the sequence. I'm hoping we can work around this limitation as the new skins are loaded last and placed at the front of the list.

According to the documentation for the server, the total number of unique models available is determined by the content in baseq3 or any loaded mods, but the game only renders models that are active in the game session. On the client side the game caches models that are present in the active session. So long as everyone has the models locally, they'll see them when connected to the server.

When trying to run the excessive plus mod in single player I kept seeing an error "Could not parse server settings". In regular Q3A mod I can play. Not sure why

Excessive Plus is primarily designed for multiplayer and doesn't fully support the single-player or skirmish mode that Quake III Arena offers by default. From what I've read this error usually means that the mod is trying to read server-specific settings, which aren't configured or are incompatible with single-player mode. That said, I do seem to be able to launch a single player game in Excessive on my end. I am going to juice up the server today if anyone wants to jump in and test, will just be bots roaming.
