• I added an agora current events board to contain discussions of political and current events to that category. This was due to a increase support for a separate board for political talk.

Were any of you around for pre-2013 ROBLOX?

I checked my two accounts but my second and main happened to be created on the same day the infamous Homestuck Webcomic began; April 13th, 2009.

Its not a big deal if you are late to the show Monty
Nah I was actually playing back in 2008
anyway shits inaccurate, i was still using that account in at least 2014, pretty sure i lost the login that year (i got a few places on there and the last one was made in august 2014 and then i made a new account in september sooooooooooooo)
another account i later made that i actually only used for a week it says i last logged in three years ago, so needless to say that site seems to be shit with that detail
evidently their datamining skills are even worse than their decision to remove tix.

I joined very late compared to all of you lol, 2017 or so. Still young enough to experience the forums and the original events and such, but towards the VERY tail end of their existence. I'm still glad I joined when I did though, so I could experience the energy of that time. It was in that strange middle period where people still weren't very advanced with scripting to the point of making complex interfaces so items and gears were still in use and the LEGO energy was still a thing and the games were made by individuals, but also not completely primitive like older roblox where you mostly had a physics engine with some extra trimming. Nowadays, in the 2020s, nearly all of the popular games are made by corperations (actual corperations that for some reason have decided to tap into the silly children's game) and are full of loot boxes and gambling mechanics (got to get the kids early ig). I'm not saying that the game definitely wasn't corperate and money hungry when I started back then, it definitely was and it was a major thing people complained about. But it feels a lot more.... weird knowing now that there are actual company-companies making most of these games. Doesn't ruin the experience nessicerily but compared to before when all the games were made by the people it's a bit... not sure how to describe it. Sad? Melancholy? Dystopian in a way? Especially since there are even more kids on there somehow than there were before in my day and they will never know anything about this version, only the corperate one full of gambling and Walmart.
Did any of you get to experience the ROBLOX forums?
Not really. It was considered the crazy area where drama went down, plus I was too scared to talk to people on there. Wish I did though. I've seen archives of some old wild roleplays that went down back in the day on there and it would have been an amazing memory to have lmao.
Unfortunately the creator of BL was its biggest obstacle. In spite of being a really great game and one of my favorites of all time, his retarded and often half-assed choices and a very sloppy steam release eventually killed it. Badspot seems to, for whatever reason, have a very strange attitude towards his own game and wants it to die. Probably not the least because the Blockland forums and userbase were so freakish and hostile. I don't have too much to say on the actual thread topic, but hopefully you can get something out of this unsolicited obscure history of a basically forgotten competitor to it.
I never knew that there was a drama around it. I just heard that it was an old, sort of crappy looking PC game from the 2000s-early 2010s that had a heavy resemblance to Roblox.
Does Blockland still have a community in 2024? I remember watching videos in 2018-2019 or so showing there were still some people (though it was more like, 5 diehard fans who for some reason kept playing and hosting their servers all these years) but that was 5 years ago and a lot changes in that time.

i made my first account in 2011, and i'm currently still on my 2012 one. i can confidently say old roblox was so much better in terms of community and general character. the platform had a completely different identity and feel. better games can be made today in their engine but i dont think the tradeoff is worth it. roblox as many of us knew it died a while ago. i still have loads of fun on roblox though, mostly sticking to older games with smaller communities.

games like black magic 1, framed, and sword fight on the heights go back a ways and have their own little niche communities. lot of fun those are!

tl;dr if u wanna have any actual fun on modern roblox find a niche community and stick with it. most of the large games are shitty weeb bait and actual visual slop meant to churn out maximum profit.

on the topic of weebs, how do people buy shit like this and wear it without a second thought? shits so fuckin ugly lmao and it doesnt translate to roblox well at all. roblox weeb shit gives me secondhand embarrassment

Joined RBLX around 2017. Hopped around games until I found a few niche ones I like (Bleeding Blades, Blood & Iron and another one I forgot). Currently I can't play RBLX due to it blocking WINE. Thought of getting into exploiting but I never really got to that.

ugh. that pissed me off. same with league of legends recently. the irritating thing about roblox and wine is that they just chose to turn compatibility off in their anticheat. wine support caused zero issues. they use exploiting as an excuse but exploiting roblox has been braindead easy in windows for years, even after filteringenabled. i remember using cheatengine to insert items into building games and destroying buildings + getting free VIP/admin lmao

my account from when i was younger says it was made in 2012 but im almost positive i played before then. as someone who still plays, the changes are DRASTIC. large majority of the games on there feel like theyre made just for profit. also no more tix currency which is ass. so many things in it now require micro-transactions which is insane to me considering the target audience is still kids lmao.

I miss when this was popular it was genuinely one of the best roblox games of all time, I'd even say it's better than Minecraft.
We should arrange a meetup here sometime

My 2011 account was terminated back in 2020 due to a heated argument in a firefighting game... I suppose ROBLOX's TOS was beginning to be further enforced in the beginning of the 2020s due to the platform (finally) becoming fully mainstream, all across the globe while 'grooming' and pedophile-like scandals were starting to pop up in mainstream media, we all expected this in some sort of way. Luckily enough, I still have access to one of my two accounts based in 2011 although I lost a good chunk of badges and accessories earned from ROBLOX events (including several editions of the Easter Egg Hunt sitewide event).

As for the whole point of this thread, I actually sort of miss the quality of places that were present back in the pre-2015 era of the platform, since I stumbled upon a good amount of creative games (which also involved world building along with other players), which I'm grateful for since I still hold plenty of memories of myself doing cool things during the unsettling solace of teenage years (and I say 'unsettling' since my relatives pressured me into achieving the usual development milestones). And 5-7 years later as I grew up into a fully (dysfunctional) adult, it all became mainstream (for the worse, unfortunately).

Great game. I miss this one place along with Survival: Apocalypse, which has similar (although weathered down) mechanics. The latter died as ROBLOX was becoming a mainstream platform. Nostalgia... damn you.

i say "oldest" cuz apparently i made 4 separate ones i completely forgot about... i don't remember any of their logins :D. i remember playing as a guest tho when that was exactly i can't tell you

all my memories of roblox are limited to disaster survival, prison life, that one game where you make pizza, and a random platformer or two.. i was never that involved with roblox or it's community

Yeah, good times. Shocking that it's still so popular today, though it only vaguely resembles what it once was. I made an alt to check out some of the newer worlds, kids these days are spoiled with the quality of games today compared to the old ones.

Whaddya mean by 'around'? Yes I was on the internet as far back as 2013, but I don't play games for children. I think it's weird older folks wanna share a space with minors.
You're not gonna believe this, but there are kids on every online game.

Not really, ROBLOX has pretty much turned into the app store nowadays even comes with the obnoxious aesthetic that comes with that label.
I miss sandbox games as a genre, they're basically dead now.

I mean games like this, which doesn't even resemble Roblox anymore. I think it's pretty incredible what people are able to do with the game now compared to the obbys of yesterday, for better or worse. I agree that there's something lost without the simplicity of older worlds.
