What is your favorite ambient/noise album?

Reposting what I said in the chat (click on each album for a tune of my choice):
not a noise fan, as for ambient I like:
Global Communication - 76:14
Gas - Zauberberg
Markus Guentner - In Moll
Brock Van Wey - White Clouds Drift On and On
Bvdub - We Were the Sun
Laraaji - Celestial Vibration
Huerco S. - For Those Of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have)

Very difficult to pick one, so you'll have to deal with that list. The one I've listened the most is Global Communication, that album helped me sleep through the first years of my tinnitus.

Ambient would probably have to be LowXY's VOID-005. It isn't noise at all though; I don't listen to much noise

(I'm a giant shill for VILL4IN at this point though, so I'll always recommend their releases. VOID-005 is the only album I own on both vinyl and cassette, if that gives you an idea of how much I love it)

If I was forced to pick some favorite noise albums, I'd probably choose some stuff by SUNN O))):

and Blut aus Nord since I can't count how many times I've listened to Epitome XIV:

I'll refrain from recommending Eno and Aphex Twin, they're both great artists but we all know of them. Regardless, if you want me to recommend specific Eno albums, I'll be happy to oblige.

  1. Stars of the Lid is my favorite ambient project, their most popular albums And Their Refinement of the Decline and Tired Sounds are great but I also highly recommend Gravitational Pull vs. the Desired for an Aquatic Life. I'd say their entire discog is worth a listen.
  2. Susumu Yokota - Sakura
  3. William Basinski - Disentegration Loops. His entire discography is great.
  4. Aix Em Klemm - S/T
  5. GAS - Zauberberg (+discog)
  6. How to Disappear Completely - Mer de Revs II (+discog)
  7. The Dead Texan - S/T

Love Laraaji... Good choice.

Gore Beyond Necropsy - Noise-A-Go-Go!!!

This ones for the real heads. As their name implies they're a band that combines both goregrind and noise. No normal human can sit through an entire record. Perhaps that's part of the appeal??
