I wanted a PS2 but my parents thought I was too young for video games, and by the time I was 10 the Wii/PS3/360 had already come out. Their video game ban didn't really work because I ended up using the computer to play flash games instead and eventually I ended up playing MMOs like Club Penguin and Wizard101 which were far more addictive and expensive than console games at the time could ever have been. Wizard101 in particular I regret the sheer amount of time spent on it. Fun game though, still popular to this day for good reason.

Virtual Boy. It wasn't even a money thing, my mom was worried it would melt my eyes.

Oh man, the fucking OG $300 Lego Death Star. I begged for it incessantly every year for a long time, and obviously never got it.

Now that I make a decent bit of money and could afford a dumb purchase that size, I've never found any for under $600, which seems real steep to me.
You know, there's a big market for bootleg Lego made in China. Some brands I remember are Lepin, Sheng Yuan and Bela. I used to follow this blog a lot back in middle school because I had a phase when I was obsessed with Legos and there was a place in my city that sold bootlegs which were like a quarter of the price at Toys R Us. The quality was pretty good back then and I'd imagine that it'll be even better now. Here's a bootleg Death Star on Aliexpress that costs a fraction of the price.

I could have played Wario Land until I turned into Mr. Magoo.
Enjoy this official Wario World ad.

I've been trying to think of something I truly wanted as a child and never got. I was a spoiled little shit. One thing I really wanted and couldn't have for practical reasons was the Sony Net Yaroze kit. I absolutely would not have understood what to do with it or how it worked. I found out about it through a demo CD (Playstation Underground 2) with some Net Yaroze games on it. It seemed like the coolest thing ever but it also cost $750 and was totally beyond my 10 year-old brain's comprehension. I still want one.

I begged my parents of these, the fact you could battle other people like in the show was mind blowing to me as a kid, in hindsight I knew nobody that also had it so it would've been kinda useless but child me would've had fun just pretending to battle.
They go for exorbitant prices now.

I was always jealous of the kids that had better Beyblades than me :(

For some reason, I just couldn't get the Beyblades I wanted.

These. Apparently they had too many moving parts and were "theologically dangerous" and got banned in my country. It was bullshit. When I was a kid everyone was posting about theirs and I've never so much as seen one in real life. I can't wait to go to Spain one day and pick one up.
Loved these things as a kid, never made an appearance in local stores but I had a bunch as family heirlooms. I'm so glad to have been able to keep the tradition going and will pass them down to my own kids when I feel they are ready for them.

I'll start, when I was a kid I always wanted the Sylvanian Families ( or you might know them as Calico Critters) toys, but I always was extremely reluctant to ask my parents at any chisrtmases or birthdays because I thought they were only for "rich kids", only this year did I find out that they basically cost the same amount as any other toy.
Now I'm on my way to getting them to pay back for lost time...

The boy next door had a Yu-Gi-Oh! dueling disk. He let me try it once, then I never saw it again. I wanted one as well, but it cost way too much.
Luckily my parents didn't buy one, because real life dueling disks slaughter cards — and you can't put sleeves on cards, otherwise they don't fit in their spots.

I wanted a TV in my room as a kid because my friends all had one in their rooms. That way I could play my xbox 360 without bothering my mom when I wanted to play it. Never got one, but I did build my own pc in middle school, and with that I no longer played console.
When I was a kid I wanted a color TV in my room because it was too hard to play Dr. Mario on my black ans white set. It was literally impossible to tell the blue and yellow pills apart.

I always wanted a powerwheel when I was really little. Later on I really wanted a go-kart. I never got any of these things, but I sure did want them back in the day. I'm pretty thankful that I always had something to strive for. Maybe if my wife and I get pregnant we can get one for our kids. I've been thinking of making one, but ho boy am I bad welding.

The only kind of toys I wanted as a kid but couldn't have for years were video games ones. And not because of their price but because of my parents' hate for video games. For example everyone had Game Boy (even poor people) but I didn't and instead I had to borrow other people's Game Boy. My first very own Game Boy was Game Boy Color and still it was a second hand one me and my brother bought along with two games for the same price of a brand new Game Boy Color game.

While I'm not a collector and I can play any Game Boy I want in emulator at many devices (besides I prefer emulators) I still want a classic Game Boy to my collection for the heck of it.

The mods you can get for gameboys now are so tight. Especially the Krikzz everdrives. I play my homebrew on my gameboy color and it's so good.
