My earliest memories of the internet are videos my granddad showed me (this was pre-youtube, maybe 2004-ish) of this pepsi commercial where a Chinese kid trains at a buddhist monastery of some sort and learns martial arts, and for his final initiation ritual to get a certain mark on his forehead, he crushes a pepsi can with it and it leaves the mark all the other monks have

After I started getting into the internet in earnest around 2006, I mostly used it for youtube and flash games, since I wasn't allowed to get a video game console until several years later. The Realspace series was a particular favorite of mine, and I even bought Realspace 3 on CD later. It was a good game, shame the company went bust. It's abandonware now. Man, youtube was so much better back then than it is today, it's incomparable.

Going to the official beanie babies website is probably the first time I was excited to use the internet. Prior to that I used a computer at a library and remembered thinking there just wasn't much on the internet. I think that library had a default list of websites they recommended and I didn't realize there was a lot more.

Also when Yahoo first got popular, a lot of the teachers at school would talk about it and how amazing it was you could use it to find anything on the internet.

My first memory of the internet was using dial up as well as using AOL cds for internet services. I believe I was like 9 or 10 if I can remember. Being around my dad not on,u introduced me to how to use the computer but also the internet. Yeah it was confusing let alone I was a child but using the internet was a new thing lol

On the weekends and during holiday breaks from school my brother and I would play games on pbskids, Nickelodeon, Disney channel and Cartoon Network site.

Other fond memories of using the internet was ordering magazines online as well as search engines like askJeeves and yahoo.

I think I'm done after this last bit lol ..... msn messenger , yahoo messenger and aol messenger lol Dont ask why I had all three messengers I just had to have them lol

My earliest memory would probably be around '03-'04 looking up the Bionicle website with a friend during a play-date. I probably saw it some time before that because I was aware of what a website was and how to search stuff up, but that's as far back as my clear memories go.

The late 90s and early 00s were truly the golden age of PC gaming, not that there aren't amazing things to play nowadays haha. What were your favourite late 90s / early 00s games?

I became sufficient in reading and writing in the kindergarden, and i was pretty quickly out of (children-level) books at home. So my mother gave me a gift: we went to the public library and i got an own registration to borrow even more books, and i did so. Some years later the library got a computer and internet access which was pretty hot new stuff back then in our small city in ~'97, so i started to use the computer in the library. At the beginning i had no idea how to use the internet or what sites exists. There was no google back then. Exactly this time the computer-magazines started to provide URLs for interesting webpages, so i bought an excercise book and noted each and every URL with a short comment about its contents so i can simply use this "internet-book" and open all the pages and even mark with a star if i like them.

Basically i developed bookmarks, meta-data and web-search-engine simply with a pen and paper. I don't know how am i not a .com millionaire yet.

my first ever memory consists of me playing a sonic flash game and another game where you had to take care of a strawberry farm. i also vividly remember trying to download music from limewire, looking at bearshare chatrooms but not having the courage to speak in them for some weird reason, using my msn account and also being on habbo hotel lol. internet addiction as a child is obviously not a good thing but it sort of made me learn english from a young age back then since i'm not a native speaker

I cannot recall the extract "earliest memory".

I know that in the 90's my aunt had the internet, and my older sister pleaded with my family to get it.

When we finally got it, I used AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) incessantly. Profiles, away messages, friends lists (and alerts when people came online), multiple screen names, ah it was a blast. I would stay up all night talking to people on there.

Anyways, I remember when Napster was a thing, then it was Kazaa, then Limewire (I remember downloading all of the CKY movies and waiting hours for them to download). I discovered tons of eclectic music during those times, from reggae to heavy metal, and techno to hip hop.

The internet was truly wild. Pop-ups were out of control, too. I vividly recall the fear of millions of pop-ups bombarding your screen of porn and ads if you visited the wrong website by mistake.
