Witch House: a microgenre of electronic music that is musically characterized by high-pitched keyboard effects, heavily layered basslines and trap-style drum loops, while it aesthetically employs occult and gothic-inspired themes.

This was a genre I dabbled in as a listener many years ago now and I can remember at the time wondering if it was a "real" genre or if it was essentially just some art school kids trying to be subversive.

Another aspect I remember from the time was a lot of artists exclusively using strings of symbols and characters as a means of being difficult to search for. These kind of gimmicks always leave me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I can understand not wanting to get swept up in the mainstream or even indie portions of the musical scene, journalism, or what have you. But on the other hand, such blunt attempts to be cryptic often end up creating a Streisand effect. And as if this kind of music was ever going to have anything other than a cult following.

I saw dude, Salem i think, play on some levi jeans channel or something mersh similar (it was many years at this point and the brain is not an infinite cabinet of space). This one was briefly into the genre, but after seeing how pathetic this man was, who was either on barbituates well beyond his capacity to maintain or akin to one that eats lead paint and seem like a giant poser and one who was prolly said things like "I like everything but country and rap" a mere 5 years before the video was done. I simply cannot hear the sounds now without laughing.
