I wonder, when eventually Globohomo strengthens their grip on the web and controll most of it, if not everything; will obscure places like these be the last bastion of internet freedom? Perhaps a place where dissidents and so on meet?
most of the cult stuff is members just enjoying freaking people out. there is a weird thing where you can email jimbly and have your mug shot put in a massive hallway of pictures with your username and that's probably as weird as it gets in the game itself. lots of porn in that area tooYeah, I know world.com. It used to be way more easy accessible. The cult thing? I don't know, could be, pretty interesting if that's real. It's a spoopy place, but yet also comforting. It's just nostalgic, and weird people are on there all day long. Life is weird.
i've seen maybe 6-7 active peopleOn average what is the peak number of user online during peak hours of the game? How members of that game's community are there? For an example, Blockland still has around roughly ~320 members remaining (me being on of them) and the game during peak hours usually range around ~50, ~60 if weekends. This is some pretty interesting stuff ngl and I wonder if it was the inspiration for your game Rig
Honestly, anonymity networks could probably handle it much better than something like this.
The problem with "last bastions", though, is that they're ineffective. Dissidents jacking off in their own corner of the internet is fine, because such activity doesn't translate to a mass movement that has political influence. In order to gain the kind of audience that brings in large numbers of people to enact the goals of your political project, you need the kind of visibility afforded by the large platforms. Obscure games from the 90s and hidden services aren't something you can influence the masses using.
Confined to your "last bastion", you're not influencing anyone to actually enact your political project.
though, so they do seem to be emphasizing their patents.Worlds also developed patented 3D interactive online gaming technologies and was awarded 10 seminal patents by the USPTO
i think they are trying to attract investors with the new website, it talks about nfts and crap on the front page. so odd... but yeah this is the patent trollWas Worlds.com the patent troll who patented something super vague and general like "a 3d environment to interact with other users online"? I remember reading somewhere about an abandoned game that has essencially no users, and makes no money from the game itself. It just needs its servers to stay up so it can stay profitable off of royalties or threatening lawsuits or something, because basically every online game "used" its patented technology.
I did a little research, but couldn't find anything definitive. The first sentence in the Worlds.com description on google was
though, so they do seem to be emphasizing their patents.
Their website is incredible though. The design has been kept up to date, using modern styling conventions, but the screenshots look like they haven't changed in decades., so they look incredibly out of place.

Great thread, I would try to join you, but it looks like it's closed for new users.
