Not so much a cafe, but I worked at a place that offered internet access per minute. I'm hoping nobody used their credit card on that thing because I usually gave away free minutes to randos and definitely used that machine for porn. Don't pay your workers minimum wage folks, you'll get losers like me piloting the ship.

was far too young to explore cybercafes in the 90s/early 2000s periods. had to go off from what my older cousins would tell me about the places theyd visit. they mostly just used it for counter strike. theyre still a really big thing in the SEA sphere and a third world country is bound to have some still around for the sake of convenience (MENA internet is slow like you would not BELIEVE). even in the richer and fancier areas of those countries theyll still have a cafe or two propped up with desktops for all your fortnite needs.

In Melbourne we have such a massive amount of international students from China and South East Asia, they've brought the Internet cafes with them. We've got dozens in the centre of the city, though they are more 'practical' than the pictures Captain posted. I have to doubt they were all like that then though! Those pictures look more like sci-fi libraries.

oh yeah, from what i heard our cafes were more like tiny garages that were held together with duct tape. you can tell all the budget went to getting good internet speed, everything else was an afterthought.

I worked in an internet cafe in the late 90s/early 2000s. The pay wasn't great and the hours were brutal, but....
  • Fast (for the time) internet access.
  • LAN gaming.
  • Free coffee.
  • A server to host sites and projects.
  • Friends to build up machines from parts.
  • An ever changing cast of people to talk to.
  • Meeting lots of women.
  • The repair shop running an industrial scale MP3 scraping operation.
  • Enough time between rushes to develop skills and work on personal projects.
I mean, WTF? Is there a better job for a kid? And it was privately owned, not part of some big chain.

EDIT: Aesthetically, it was no where near as styled as the upthread photos, but not quite as utilitarian as the Russian ones in Ross_Я's post.
