This is, I think, an excellent essay and a good read. I share some of these ideas/beliefs, I am in general a pretty frugal person, but I try to keep a balance, I will make smaller expenses here and there in order to treat myself, but I tend to save my money for bigger, "important" things (to me). I opted out of the rat race a long time ago, with all the uncertainty it brought me, simply so I could have a better grasp of my time and the effort I was putting into things that I found meaningful to me. In this case, it felt like putting all my time into a job I didn't like, then coming home too tired to work on any of my projects was a poor way of living. All this said, I still doubt myself, and I'm still not sure if or which of the decisions I've made were the right ones, all I can do is move forward. I think, life as you propose it could be the answer to living a truly meaningful life for some people, but it might not be a real solution for everyone. Like you said, your situation is very particular to yourself. For example, someone who values love and wishes to be able to form a family might not want to follow the homeless path, you could argue in favor of it, how it could strengthen the characters of your children, but, assuming they survive the cold and hunger, there's also the issue of education. The problem with any system of beliefs, is that it must be superimposed over a real, structured, uncaring system already in place that determines society. Depending on what's truly valuable to you, the solution to your problems oughta be tailor made.
