Technology is going backwards. Most software today is moving from native applications written in C or other low level languages, to Electron chrome wrappers made using JS/TypeScript that are slow and unresponsive.
People are forgetting how to actually make software. Even mobile software is the same. Essentially, just a wrapper for a website because depsite the billions of dollars corporations have, they can't find a Swift or Java developer to make a properly functioning app for the Android and IOS platform.
Yes, computers may have more resources to work with today, more memory, faster CPUs, but it's all squandered. Optimization is no longer a concern for the modern developer. You can emulate the entirety of Windows XP operating system in VirtualBox with the same amount of memory it takes to have 5 Chrome tabs open. Try it sometime and open up htop / task manager and compare the two.
And that's just performance. Modern websites and "apps" are ugly. and uninspired. Everything has this sterile look and no one cares about innovation anymore.
