This is Extremely Dangerous to Our Democracy
From the same goons that brought you the greatest hits of The Patriot Act, here comes the Disinformation Governance Board (DGB). Critics have been quick to label it a "Ministry of Truth," while the US right have been particularity outspoken with the DGB's head official, Nina Jankowicz. Jankowicz was vocal about her belief that the Hunter Biden laptop was a "Trump campaign product" pushed by Russians. This opinion echoed by her and other head intelligence officials helped lead to the story being outright censored by Twitter as disinformation right before the 2020 presidential election.
The formation of the DGB comes amid a renewed push by lawmakers in both the US and EU to suppress and censor mainstream social media, perhaps prompted in part by Elon Musk's purchasing of Twitter and their fear he will allow misinformation, disinformation, conspiracies, and hate speech to spread. My speculation is that the formation of the DGB is a preemptive tactic to stop an potential claims of election fraud come 2024 (unless it's le Russians doing it!!)
As of now, it appears the DHS is focused on combating online "misinformation" regarding Covid, Russia, and election fraud. How they will go about ensuring "the truth" is the main narrative I am unsure, but I do not like where this is heading at all. Could be a precedent for shutting down political opposition in general. Homeland Security has a terrible track record when it comes to abusing it's power after all.
