Thanks for inviting me even though I've not shown any interest in vaporwave before. I was late to it cos it started while I was still sleeping, so I arrived in the middle of Giant Claw's set, and it was excellent

Eyeclick, strip_silence, and Be Careful's sets were my favorites, mostly thanks to the visuals. Vaporwave music works so much better when it has a visual component. I'm kicking myself for missing Giant Claw's set, it sounded really good and I like what he has on his Bandcamp. FrankJavCee was also pretty funny and deserves an honorable mention for completely living up to my mental image of what people who produce vaporwave look and act like.
The people running this event must have a very liberal idea of what counts as "vaporwave," because a good chunk of the artists didn't fit my idea of what the genre is supposed to sound like. Fighting Island did JRPG-pastiche chiptune (still really good), Chad Pennington did normie EDM with a Gameboy in the background, Fibre and Discoholic both did semi-comedic pop song mashups. I didn't really mind this since I'm not the biggest vaporwave fan to begin with, but it did seem a little strange. Maybe the "vaporwave community" (whatever that is) has started to move away from 80s/90s nostalgia and is now more interested in Y2K pop music and the aesthetics of the terminally online. It wasn't always vaporwave, but it was all "internet music."
Overall, it was fun (aside from Wizard of Loneliness' set, which made me want to stick my head in an oven) and I'm glad I tuned in.

While Vaporwave as a genre is quite vast it always had a central theme of lost memories, nostalgia and a return to retro in almost zombie like sence. I fear some of these artists just had included things like disco pop mashup or breakcore in there in a sence of "yeah sure thats nostalgic enough lol" while just slapping "classic vaporwave" to draw a line between that i believe is vaporwave and the before mentioned odd ones out. All together does fit under the blanket of internet music like you said, but i would only count as vaporwave the sets of Saint Pepsi, Luxury Elite, EyeClick, Be Careful, TrucksPassingTrucks and FrankJavCee, still had a great time with the whole thing vibing to the good and great and making fun of the bad with the others in the agora chat
