I understand that, but from a user perspective why use multiple apps for the same thing? Why not just stick to TikTok for all short form viewing?

IMO it's just people being even lazier. Why change the app when you can watch the same content at just one click less?

They don't, that's why every app is adding this feature. It is a market to conquer. One of those app will soon dominate the market (Probably Tik Tok) and the others will be deserted or marginalized

Hey, maybe that could lead to new developers being able to fill the abandoned niches? There's still a market for long-form content, unless I'm mistaken, and so if YT, hypothetically, were to become an undesirable platform for long-form, then perhaps another video platform could take its place? Same thing for other niches. Netflix seems to have fallen behind in the streaming wars and is giving way to a hundred other 'old-media' services, but in the world of video sites, could not there be an opening for smaller enterprises? Or would they just be kept alive with the minimally tolerable standards to be kept dominant? -If we are not already there.

If YT (for exemple) completely abandon the long-form content, then yes. It would be a niche to fill, but YT abandonning the long-form content means that it is no longer financially viable so it could be a risky investment :/
The reality is that they don't really throw away old feature to implement the new ones, they are just adding new feature to the site and twist the algorythm to boost the new feature to take marketshares.
But, eventually, they always fail because a specialized app is doing better. Youtube Gaming and Youtube Live were rolled over by Twitch and Youtube Short will probably die to the hands of Tik-Tok

Maybe, but that seems like it might still require something to anchor those conditions to a lived experience on the part of the 'viewer.' Things like ASMR come from things that people have experienced in real life, but now are seeing it done more or less 'perfectly,' like the cake slicing videos, cleaning, etc. Even Elsagate garbage has an anchor to a previous experience, such as Spider-Man and Frozen content.

But as a sort of drug/trend? Yeah, probably not too far away by now. Think of abstract art and content (man I feel this word is overused, but what else is there for so broad a category?) But then again, what happens when that stuff is all someone knows from infancy? Maybe it really could take over, further obliterating interpersonal communication and relationships, slowly vanquishing human art itself, etc.

In the end, AI e-thots shall inherit the web. Reminds me of those supposed stories of Japanese men who 'marry' digital companions, so the natural evolution of waifu culture and technology. Could also be used as a placating device for people neither appreciative of 'hookup' culture nor traditional enough to seek only a human mate.

There are already tons of waifu AI-generation apps on the Play Store. ot soon, but in some years we might see it become more famous.

I've said this elsewhere, but despite being an Old with a relatively intact attention span, I like shorts because they respect my time. They have the same amount of actual content as a long form video (2 - 3 sentences tops) without it being sandwiched between 10 - 60 minutes of filler, purple prose, and cinematic masturbation.

A short doesn't have to be a predatory dopamine surge for scrambled egg brained Zoomers. It could just be "Here is the thing you want to know in 10 seconds."

Step 2: It's all about psuedo-dopamine. Hence why food is such an excellent topic to focus on. The name of the game of Shorts (and I'm sure this applies to Tiktok as well) is to simulate in the viewer with the feeling of accomplishment. In japaneat's case that's the primal accomplishment of eating a meal (but in Japan!). In SenyaiGrubs's case, it's the simulated sense of accomplishement of making food. This is a bit of a side rant, but food related videos are not altogether different from how pornography functions. Both focus on titillating the most animal and primordial parts of ourselves. Ever notice how cooking videos never feel satisfying if the person making it doesn't film themselves trying it at the end? Kind of reminds me how a porno doesn't feel complete without a creampie.

YouTube shorts is great for views, but unless you funnel well enough in being a salesman/copywriting, it doesn't capitalise into subscribers. The same happens on tiktok. There's little brand/channel loyalty, just consumption. As such, I don't think it's good enough to make a living on, unless it has additional evergreen content surrounding it--- BUT! I'm very interested to be convinced otherwise
