I have a fondness for hard shadows, I wish I could remember what this style is called.
Is that really a conscious style, or is it just a limited shaded colour palette? Either way, it's something I didn't know I liked until I saw the second and third images.

I've come across a name for it before, but i've only seen it the once and never again. There is a renaissance art-style called Chiaroscuro that it kinda close, but it doesn't really use flat, hard shadows.

As you can see, these are heavily shadowed, but it's not a hard, flat type of shadowing like in the pics from my first post.
The style I'm looking for is probably more so derived from old video graphics, since the limitations of the color palate would force hard blacks and both of the games I used as examples are throwbacks to old dungeon crawlers.

Not sure what to call it. But like places that are indoors but are built to feel like your outdoors, or are corporate but are built to feel like a rustic lodge or something. Best examples I can give are Great Wolf Lodge, Cabelas, and Bass Pro in the US and Canada. Maybe like faux lodgecore or something.

A lot of very lonesome imagery there, but a sort of comforting loneliness, and for the last two a feeling of coming after something else, be it a long busy day or the death of a civilization. An eveningtime sort of atmosphere. The buildings and technology imply the presence of other people, but they are mostly absent from the viewer's experience, again, sort of a 'late to the party and the guests have left' feeling. I dunno why, but it resonates with me a bit.
I wonder what aesthetic preferences reflect in the people who choose them?

And so on. I'm just tired of these modest and dull colors that are popular since 2000. Especially blacks and greys. It's like Y2K happened and destroyed color. I need wildstyle, Memphis Group, pro street - anything, literally anything bright.
